Al Frank’s 2002 record steelhead - 22lbs

The Steelheader News
Sunday January 27, 2002 will be a day all local steelheaders will remember. Aside from being a truly magnificent day to be out on the river steelhead fishing an astonishing event occurred on this day of grace.
Chilliwack’s Al Frank caught the largest hatchery steelhead to fin the Vedder River. It weighed in at 22lbs.
He just happened to stumble across an area mid-river where a tree fell into the river and whack – the rest is steelhead history. He said he was into three fish and then the big boy took hold. The big buck hit a two-tone orange wool-tie and didn’t live to regret it.
Frank was drift fishing with an Abu 6000 levelwind reel and a Loomis drift rod. Frank’s family lives in Chilliwack where he owns a greenhouse. He’s fished the Vedder river for 20 years and now he’s an immortal among the ranks of Vedder river steelheaders.
