Aquaventure is just what the word sounds like – adventure in the aqua
realm and unlike so many businesses that give you a lot of hype this outfit
is low key and effective.
Grant McCallum is the founder of Aquaventures. If you get a chance to book
some time with him, don’t hesitate.
In this day and age versatility seems to be the key to survival in
the Outdoors and McCallum’s the kind of guy I’d put my money on if I was
needing assistance in planning an escape from the tyranny of modern
technology and all its wizardry .He’ll take you to some of the wildest
stretches of the Fraser river and you’ll still be within an hours drive of
Vancouver, BC. It doesn’t matter whether you’re coming from outside of
Canada or from other regions within Canada, guides like Grant McCallum
get results.
The reason
I say this is because McCallum is versatile. He knows his stuff when it
comes to sport fishing but he also has enough savvy to understand that a day
of fishing can be even more enjoyable if you add other outdoor activities --
particularly in peak times when some of McCallum’s clients can limit out in
a matter of an hour. As well, having options reassures his outdoor clients
that their ‘fishin’ mission’ isn’t waisted when a guide, through no fault
his own, misses that golden romp at the good ol’ fishin’ hole owing to last
minute changes.
Visit Aquaventures site
www.aquaventures.ca and
you’ll notice a few of the other opportunities at your Finger Tips:
Whitewater Rafting,
Ocean Kyacking, River Eco-tours, and Hiking . . . psst .
. . you’ll get hooked on all the outdoor opportunities. Don’t worry one bit
if you bore easily - there’s always a golf escape to Rowena’s on the
Harrison River at the Sandpiper Golf course [Pretty Estates].
In the Fraser Valley region that McCallum services, Sportfishing is the
mainstay of his guiding practice.
He says mid June to mid July are prime times for Chinook; Great Sockeye
fishing is within the window July 21 - August 21; and a good time to ding a
Pink: is from August 30 - October 1. If you land in McCallum’s fishin’ patch
somewhere in the September to October scheme of things all sportfishing is
in progress and all fishing activities surpass the busiest activity of even
the most prodigious beaver. Joking aside - September & October are the peak
two months to be sportfishing in BC’s Fraser Valley region. Other times are
excellent as well but for the greatest ‘bang for your buck’ bank on
Aquaventures and his Associates during these months.
McCallum recalls his "Perfect Day," exploring the Fraser Valley. He said
he captained the ship while his clients caught and released sockeye all day
long, then caught a 31lbs spring on the same sockeye outfit - about the same
consistency of a trout fishing outfit. At the end of the day they lucked out
and caught a 9 foot sturgeon. Try it!
McCallum says he never tires of seeing that look on somebody’s face when
they’ve caught the dream fish of a lifetime. Also, he says that media has
helped in fostering awareness among Canadians in other parts of Canada, the
USA and Europe. Locals that have relatives visiting during vacation time
find it convenient to give McCallum and his associates a holler for a little
fish’n-fun.
Skipper McCallum is planning to market Aquaventures to German and European
fans through a world outdoor marketing group but insists, "there are still a
lot of tourists from Alberta that pass by ‘The Mighty Fraser’ and don’t
realize exactly just what kind of jewel the Fraser Valley harbours."
Try it you'll fall in love again.
