Memorial: John Carter, BCWF president 1985 - 1987
We have just been informed that B.C. Wildlife Federation Past President John Carter, passed away Wednesday, October 23rd. John was president of the Federation from 1985 - 1987.
From the information received, John was hiking on the Stake Lake Trails and had a heart attack. He was with a buddy, sat down for a rest when the heart attack happened. John was only 69 years old.
To become the President of the B.C. Wildlife Federation, one must show a love and dedication to our fish and wildlife resources, and John most certainly did. But that only tells part of the story.
Before taking on the provincial responsibilities, John put in his time at his home club, the Kamloops and District Fish & Game Club where he served his time as president. He then moved on to become president of the BCWF Shuswap Region and a director on the BCWF's provincial board and then made the commitment to stand for the presidency of the BCWF.
He also served on the board of directors of the Canadian Wildlife Federation. John was deeply interested in B.C.'s inland fisheries and sat for many years as the Chair of the Federation's Inland Fisheries Committee. John left us far too soon. [BCWF RELEASE]
